Donna Aucoin, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
A native
of Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Aucoin received a Bachelor’s degree
in psychology, with a minor in biology, from the University of
Southwestern Louisiana (currently University of Louisiana at Lafayette)
before pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work from Louisiana
State University. She then completed the requirements for
both an additional Master’s degree and a Doctorate degree in Psychology
from the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Aucoin completed
a one-year internship at the Johns Hopkins University Medical Center
in Baltimore, Maryland as part of her doctoral requirements. She
is currently pursuing a Post-Doctoral Master’s degree in Psychopharmacology
to obtain credentialing as a Medical Psychologist.
Dr. Aucoin previously served as the Regional Psychologist for the Office of Mental Health for six years and during that period she facilitated the development of multiple-community-based programs for youth throughout the state, region, and parish. During that period, Dr. Aucoin was awarded a federally funded 3-year grant for $1,050,000 through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration which facilitated the provision of mental health services, training, and consultation for students and educators within the Lafayette Parish School system.
Dr. Aucoin specializes in assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and/or academic concerns. She provides psychological evaluations to determine relevant diagnoses and to assist in the development of comprehensive treatment plans. She provides individual, family, and group therapy, as well as consultation with teachers and other professionals regarding assessment results and treatment strategies. She frequently works with children who have one or more of the following issues/diagnoses: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety, depression, oppositional/defiant behavior, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, learning difficulties, Aspergers, Autism, anger control difficulties, and aggression. Furthermore, Dr. Aucoin conducts adult ADHD evaluations and works with family physicians, sharing her results, to facilitate psychopharmacological treatment when necessary.next >>
