James Reaux, MS, CIJames E. Reaux (Jimmy) is a native of Lafayette. He is a dedicated husband and father to three children, an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He became interested in Psychology during his college studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, earning a Bachelor degree in Behavioral Sciences. He worked in a behavioral health hospital with adult populations suffering from mental illness while transitioning into graduate school. Intrigued by research and experimentation, he was offered a unique opportunity to be a part of a team studying comparative developmental intelligence in children and chimpanzees. While there, he initiated a series of studies designed to elucidate understanding in thought processes regarding causal relationships in the physical domain. His work led him to a full time research position where he contributed to longitudinal research, earned a Master’s Degree in Experimental Psychology, and contributed as an author to several research articles, and book publications.

Returning to his initial interests in understanding mental illness and helping people, he went on to earn a second Master’s degree in Counselor Education, and began working with a diverse population of people with stress, depression, trauma and grief, anxiety, life transition, and communication and relationship issues. Jimmy joined Aucoin and Associates in June 2010 and expanded his practice to include children and adolescents on issues including social problems, anger, self-esteem, and learning and developmental disorders, while continuing his work with adults and couples. He primarily utilizes a cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach to problem solving, yet draws from many schools of thought including psychoanalytic theory and existentialism.
