Michelle Hernandez, MPS, MS, NCC, CI

Michelle Hernandez earned a bachelor’s degree in religious studies with a minor in secondary education from Loyola University in 1990 and spent 15 years teaching high school in the New Orleans area. She subsequently earned a Master of Pastoral Studies in Pastoral Care and Counseling and a Master of Science in Counseling also from Loyola University. A native of Lafayette, Michelle then returned to her roots and family and joined Aucoin and Associates in January of 2010. Michelle spent one year interning at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans in the counseling department, working with female high school students. In her second year of internship, Michelle worked at Family Service of Greater New Orleans. At Family Service, Michelle worked with underserved children, adolescents, adults and families. Her favorite work there was co-facilitating a group for male domestic violence perpetrators.
As a teacher at Holy Rosary High School in New Orleans from 2005-2010, Michelle taught and worked with students with Learning Differences, including many students in the spectrum of Asperger’s and Autism. Michelle is a contributing author in The Vision of Catholic Youth Ministry: Fundamentals, Theory, and Practice by St. Mary’s Press.
Michelle takes a special interest in adolescents but also enjoys working with children and adults. Her interests include academic difficulties, behavioral concerns, childhood disorders, grief, depression, anxiety, anger management, relationship issues, family systems, vocational/career concerns, multicultural issues and religion and spirituality.
