Services Offered by Aucoin & Associates

Psychological and Psychoeducational Assessment:

For both adults and children, Aucoin and Associates offers comprehensive assessment batteries for a variety of concerns, such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), depression, anxiety, mood instability, learning differences, developmental delay, and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  Assessment procedures vary and are determined based on the unique needs of the client and their family.  Such procedures may include a diagnostic interview, psychometrically-supported testing and rating scales, collateral interview (e.g., teacher interview), and school observations for school-aged children.  The focus of all assessment activity within the clinic is to educate the client and their family of the nature and intensity of their possible difficulties, as well as to inform a comprehensive treatment plan.

Individual Therapy:

One of the most common treatment modalities for both adult and child psychological or mental health difficulties is individual therapy.  At Aucoin and Associates, the activity within individual therapy sessions can be described as goal-oriented, empirically-based, and is designed to provide the client with tools and techniques for continual forward progression.  Goal attainment and life enhancement are considered significant markers of session effectiveness.

Couples Therapy:

Several associates within the practice provide couple’s therapy.  This service may be utilized in conjunction with family or individual services.  As in individual therapy, couple’s therapy is goal-oriented, with the overarching mission being the enhancement of the relationship, so that each partner experiences the level of communication, intimacy, and closeness they desire.

Group Therapy:

Participating in group therapy is considered an additional tool for continued progress.  Group therapy can provide an individual with a sense of belonging and cohesiveness, as well as the attainment of additional techniques that other group members have found beneficial in their similar situations.  The groups offered at Aucoin and Associates cover wide and varied areas and topics.  Groups conducted have included parenting skills, anger management for young boys, body and self-esteem issues for teenage girls, social skills for children with Asperger’s Disorder, Life Coaching, and the use of positive psychology techniques for the overworked and overstressed adult.

School and Teacher Consultation:

For many children and adolescents, the demands and stress of school may exacerbate mental health difficulties.  Appreciating this, we offer consultation with school personnel, such as teachers, administrators, and counselors.  This consultation is focused on giving the school staff and parents more effective communication and better management of the child’s difficult behaviors.  Such consultation may be done on-site at the child’s school, via email, via telephone, or in our clinic.   As children and adolescents spend the majority of their day hours on a school campus, this service oftentimes proves invaluable to the continued progress of our younger clients.

Physician Consultation and Medication:

Some of our clients may need the addition of psychotropic medication to optimize their success.  In some cases, an individual’s primacy care provider, psychiatrist, or pediatrician has already initiated treatment prior to coming to our clinic.  Thus, in order to provide comprehensive care, we also offer physician consultation.  In essence, we attempt to create a team approach whereby information can be shared and plans can be generated together to maximize outcomes for our clients and their families. If a client has not previously been prescribed medication and it becomes warrented, Dr. Aucoin will consult with a client’s physician and after collaboration will prescribe and manage psychotropic medication.

Home Visits:

Another service that may be useful in creating momentum toward progress is direct services in the individual client’s home.   With such a service, the tools and techniques discussed in therapy can be generalized to the home setting.   For many individuals, using the techniques discussed in therapy may be challenging and difficult.  Thus, one of our associates may provide in-home support when such assistance is needed.

At Aucoin and Associates, each client is considered unique and each deserves an individualized assessment and treatment plan.
