James Eckhoff began his academic training at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. While enrolled in his undergraduate degree program, he became involved in the psychology program at ULL as the president of the ULL chapter of Psi Chi, the international honor society in Psychology. He then went on to receive his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi. During his master’s program, he worked with a wide variety of client populations in his practicum, as well as an internship at a half-way house for males with addictions. Following graduation, he began his professional career as a substance abuse counselor at a local area addiction treatment center, where he led and co-led intensive outpatient group therapy groups for adults and adolescents with various addictions, as well as work with general mental health issues. He then became the Associate Clinical Director of Outpatient Services before transitioning to his current position at Aucoin & Associates.
Mr. Eckhoff currently has several client populations that he enjoys working with. He frequently works with children and early adolescents with, but not limited to, the following issues: stress, anger, self-esteem, social skills, autism spectrum disorders, as well as the development and implementation of family rules with families of said children. He also works with adults and adolescents on, but not limited to, the following issues: addiction, stress management, anger management, relaxation training, relationships, communication, and self-esteem deficits. Mr. Eckhoff also specializes in working with individuals of all ages with video game and internet addiction concerns, as well as helping parents to better help children in this area.
